Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is involves developmentally inappropriate levels of impulsivity, inattention, and hyperactivity. It impacts about 10% of children and teens and, for the majority of people, continues into adulthood. Someone diagnosed with ADHD can have one of three presentations: predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, or mixed presentation.
People with ADHD can be very successful with the right support, therapy, and/or medication. The first step is getting early identification. If you suspect that your child has ADHD, you can speak with your Family Physician and/or book an appointment to discuss your concerns with me.
When working with children with ADHD, I help them gain tools to regulate their emotions, improve their organization and time management, and facilitate their executive function development. I also work with parents to help them find parenting strategies to best help their child.
